Florida Governor Announces College Grants Amid Budget Discussions
In Tallahassee, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced $8.9 million in grants from the Job Growth Grant Fund for workforce training programs at two Florida colleges. Indian River State College will receive $4 million for advanced manufacturing, while Miami Dade College gets $4.9 million for aircraft mechanic training. The Senate has proposed allocating $25 million to the fund for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, allowing the governor discretion in its use for infrastructure or workforce development. However, the House's proposed budget excludes funding for this grant. Final negotiations between the Senate and House will determine the fiscal year budget starting July 1.
