This initiative brings together Indiana State Police and several Hamilton County Agencies to make Christmas dreams come true for families in need. Over 60 kids had the incredible opportunity to "shop with a cop" on Saturday, and one such child was Kylar Williams, who knew exactly what he wanted. "I'm really happy and feel like I am going to have so much fun already," he exclaimed. This remarkable experience has been a part of the community for 15 years, starting with just ten families and $100 each. President Dustin Dixon shared that they have witnessed significant growth over the years. "We started with ten families, $100 a piece and since that time over the last 15 years we’ve grown," he said. Dixon also informed 13News that they had their highest number of families this year because it has become more challenging for some to afford holiday shopping. "People think it doesn’t happen in Hamilton County, but I can assure that it does happen and there are people in need, they just need a little bit of hope," ISP Superintendent Doug Carter emphasized. Hope is at the core of this event, as these officers strive to bring a touch of joy into the kids' lives. "There’s a lot of these kids we deal with that we’ve dealt with previously and it’s not their best day and to have this experience, to me that’s what Christmas is all about," Dixon said.
