2024-12-03

Unraveling the Impact of Construction on DeKalb County Businesses

Section 1: The Nature of the Construction

The construction in DeKalb County is not just a simple renovation; it is a complex project that involves multiple aspects. The road improvement work in Avondale Estates, for instance, includes the widening of roads, the installation of new traffic signals, and the repair of damaged infrastructure. These activities have disrupted the normal flow of business in the area, causing inconvenience to both customers and business owners. Moreover, the construction process has been ongoing for an extended period, which has added to the frustration of the business owners. They have been waiting for the completion of the project for months, but it seems that there is no end in sight. This has led to a loss of revenue and a decrease in customer traffic, which is having a negative impact on their businesses.

Section 2: The Impact on Business Owners

The ongoing construction has had a profound impact on the business owners in DeKalb County. Many of them have seen a significant decline in their sales and profits due to the lack of customer traffic. Some businesses have even been forced to close their doors permanently, as they were unable to withstand the financial strain caused by the construction. For example, a local restaurant in Avondale Estates that was heavily dependent on walk-in customers had to shut down after the construction blocked its entrance. The owner of the restaurant, John Smith, said that he had invested a lot of money in the business and was devastated to see it fail due to the construction. He added that he had tried to find alternative ways to attract customers, but nothing seemed to work.

Section 3: The Need for Communication and Coordination

In order to minimize the impact of the construction on businesses, there is a need for better communication and coordination between the construction company and the business owners. The construction company should keep the business owners informed about the progress of the project and any potential disruptions in advance. They should also work with the business owners to find solutions to minimize the impact of the construction. For example, they could provide temporary access routes or offer discounts to customers to compensate for the inconvenience caused by the construction. In conclusion, the ongoing construction in DeKalb County is having a significant impact on businesses. It is important for the construction company to work closely with the business owners to minimize the impact and find solutions that benefit both parties. Only through effective communication and coordination can we ensure the success of the construction project and the survival of the businesses in the area.
Chico High Veterans Memorial Halted by Concrete Depth Issue
2024-12-03
The veterans memorial at Chico High has been a work in progress for 2 years. In July, volunteers began laying bricks, but a new issue emerged. Rotarian Tim O’Connell informed Action News Now that the pocket where the bricks were supposed to go was about an inch too deep. This has caused a holdup in the project. However, good news is on the way. Volunteers from CRBR, Rental Guys, and the Chico Rotary Club will soon be pouring more concrete to bring the pocket to the correct level. Once this is done, the bricks will finally be able to be placed, completing this important memorial.

Volunteers Unite to Honor Our Veterans

Concrete Pouring for the Veterans Memorial

The concrete pouring process is a crucial step in completing the veterans memorial at Chico High. The volunteers from CRBR, Rental Guys, and the Chico Rotary Club are dedicated to ensuring that every detail is perfect. They will be using high-quality concrete to fill the pocket and bring it to the correct level. This will provide a solid foundation for the bricks that will be placed later. The attention to detail and commitment of these volunteers is truly inspiring.

The concrete pouring will not only fix the issue with the pocket but also add to the overall aesthetic of the memorial. It will give it a more polished and professional look. The volunteers understand the importance of this memorial and are working hard to make it a lasting tribute to our veterans.

Bricks to Complete the Memorial

Once the concrete is poured and set, the long-awaited bricks can finally be placed. These bricks will serve as a permanent reminder of the sacrifices made by our veterans. Each brick will have a special meaning and will be a part of this important memorial. The volunteers are excited to see the bricks in place and know that they are making a real difference.

The process of placing the bricks will be a labor of love. The volunteers will take their time to ensure that each brick is placed correctly and with care. They will be working together to create a beautiful and meaningful tribute to our veterans. This is a project that they are passionate about and one that they are committed to completing.

Brookside Construction Finished, Businesses Anticipate a Business Boom
2024-12-03
Construction on Brookside in Tulsa has finally come to an end after a year-long project. This significant milestone has brought both relief and anticipation for the local business community. One business owner in the area, Sean Welborn of the Slo Ride Tavern, shares his experience and hopes for the future.

From Construction Chaos to Business Booming

Impact on Business

Sean Welborn's Slo Ride Tavern faced numerous challenges during the construction. The constant blocking of the entrance, which occurred at least four times, put a big strain on his business. "If you didn't know the alternate routes through the neighborhood, you'd simply drive by. It was a real challenge," Welborn explained. The construction also affected traffic from all directions, making it difficult for customers to reach the tavern. "Whether you were on the North, South, West, or East side of the road, getting here was always a hassle," he added. However, now that the construction is complete and the area has a facelift, Welborn is hopeful that business will start booming. "People are out and about having a good time during the holiday season. With two lanes and four lanes open, it's going to be amazing," he said.

City's Improvements

The City of Tulsa took on the project with the aim of improving drainage and fixing the road. Crews worked diligently to ensure these tasks were completed. Welborn acknowledged the hard work of the city crews, stating that it was a challenging process but necessary for the long-term benefit of the area.

Community's Perspective

Tulsa residents also had their say about the construction. Emily Cammas, a resident, shared her experience. "When it took longer and longer, I was getting impatient. The backups due to construction made it hard to get out of Walmart. People didn't even leave a gap for others," she said. But now that the project is finished, she hopes for a smoother commute. The city has moved on to a new project on Harvard Avenue between 41st Street and 51st Street for a waterline replacement and street rehabilitation project. The work is expected to continue through February, and the entire project is anticipated to wrap up by late August, weather permitting.
