The fourth-grade Student Senate at Hills Elementary School embarked on a remarkable journey to make a positive impact during the holiday season and beyond. Through their dedicated efforts, they collected an impressive amount of food to help feed local families in need.

Impact and Donation Details

Students collected food items between November 18th and 22nd. These donations will be utilized in the school's pantry, the Bay Six Project in Mingo Junction, and at Trinity Health System's Tony Teramana Cancer Center. Adviser Ashley Turnbull shared that this is the eighth year of this program where non-perishable items were collected by the students. Teachers even brought in turkeys to earn extra bonus points. The school managed to raise an astonishing 1,937 items, including boxed and canned goods such as stuffing, soup, tuna, pasta, and vegetables. Six turkeys were provided by teachers to assist with Thanksgiving meals.

Student Participation

Among those actively involved were, from left, in the front row Natalie Nixon; in the second row Samuel Fluharty and Ava LaSalle; and in the back Chy’Lah Levy, Aleni Wagner, Jace Fithen, Jordy Eft, and Aaliyah Day. Their collective efforts showed the power of unity and kindness.

The school will be receiving a pizza party as a token of appreciation for their efforts. It's worth noting that A.J. Renner's second-grade class came in first place and will receive an extra prize.
