2024-12-04
The world of foldable phones is on the verge of a significant leap with the emergence of the tri-folding phone. This innovative device combines two hinges and three different parts to create one large, expansive screen. It shares similarities with modern book-like foldables but offers an extra third of display space, promising a truly immersive viewing experience.

Unlock the Future of Mobile with the Tri-Folding Phone

Samsung's Tri-Folding Phone: A 2026 Launch?

According to display analyst Ross Young via X, Samsung is likely to launch their tri-folding phone in early 2026. This comes after earlier reports suggesting a late 2025 release. Young has not elaborated on the reasons for the potential delay, leaving us curious about what might be causing the hold-up. Currently, the only tri-fold phone on sale is the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design, a visually appealing device that comes with a hefty price tag. However, its limited availability due to Huawei's international market constraints gives Samsung a significant advantage in launching their own tri-fold phone. It's possible that other companies outside of China might also release a tri-folding phone, but all indications so far point to Samsung being the frontrunner. ZDNET Korea claims that all the components for Samsung's tri-fold phone have been made and are ready to go, which is why they tipped a 2025 launch. Clearly, Ross Young seems to have some insider knowledge that could potentially lead to a later Galaxy tri-fold launch.

Design Differences: Samsung vs. Huawei

One notable aspect is that Samsung may not be adopting Huawei's approach. While Huawei's device leaves part of the screen exposed when folded, Samsung is said to be utilizing an "infolding design" similar to the Z Fold 6. This design offers better protection to all the folding panels when not in use, ensuring the longevity and durability of the phone. Such a design choice showcases Samsung's commitment to innovation and quality in the foldable phone market. It remains to be seen how this design will perform in real-world usage and how it will set Samsung's tri-fold phone apart from its competitors.

The Potential Impact on the Mobile Market

The introduction of the tri-folding phone could have a profound impact on the mobile market. With its larger screen and enhanced functionality, it could attract a new wave of consumers who are looking for a more immersive mobile experience. This could potentially lead to increased competition among smartphone manufacturers and drive innovation in the foldable phone space. It will be interesting to see how consumers respond to this new form factor and how it will shape the future of mobile technology. Additionally, the delay in Samsung's launch raises questions about the readiness of the market and the challenges that manufacturers face in bringing these advanced devices to consumers. Only time will tell how the tri-folding phone will reshape the mobile landscape.
Spotify Wrapped 2024: AI Podcast by Google's NotebookLM
2024-12-04
Spotify Wrapped is here, bringing a host of new features and updates. From an AI-powered podcast to expanded social media integrations and more, let's dive into the world of Spotify's annual listening recap.

Unlock the Magic of Your Music with Spotify Wrapped

Spotify Wrapped: The Streamer's Annual Listening Recap

Spotify Wrapped, the much-awaited annual listening summary, has finally arrived. It not only provides a personalized overview of your favorite artists, songs, podcasts, and more but also introduces two exciting new features this year. One of the notable additions is an AI-powered podcast created with Google's NotebookLM, giving you an in-depth look at your 2024 listening habits. Another new feature is the "Your Music Evolution" data story, which allows you to trace how your musical interests have changed over the past year.

Previously, Spotify built its Wrapped features in-house. But this year, they are collaborating with an outside partner on a flagship Wrapped feature using Google's Gemini AI. This enables you to explore a personalized audio overview of your music listening in 2024, including top songs, artists, genres, and more. It feels like listening to a podcast about your Wrapped.

The Addition of Google's AI Notetaking Tool

The addition of Google's AI notetaking tool, NotebookLM, has been a breakout moment. People started using its Audio Overview feature to create conversations between two AI hosts, leading to interesting insights and humorous commentary. Spotify was inspired by this and decided to work with Google on the new Wrapped feature.

When you play your Wrapped "podcast" from the Home screen of the Spotify app, the AI hosts will compliment your music taste and summarize your listening activity. You can also save the AI-created audio clip to your mobile device or share it on social media. This feature is available to both free and paid users in English in several countries like the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, and Sweden for a limited time.

Expanding Social Media Integrations

Spotify is also expanding its social media integrations to include sharing on TikTok. This is an ideal way to share the new personalized AI audio experiences. While the AI podcast is likely to be a hit on social media, it feels somewhat iterative compared to last year's addition of the AI DJ feature.

The AI DJ feature integrates your Wrapped into its spoken commentary and stories. It is available in both English and Spanish, offering AI-generated commentary around your top artists and songs. This year, you have two AI speakers instead of one, adding a new dimension to your musical history.

AI Playlists for Premium Subscribers

Another AI feature is aimed at Premium subscribers. They can enter prompts to generate AI playlists based on their Wrapped experience, building on the existing AI playlist feature launched in April. For example, you can prompt Spotify to play more artists like your top 5 Wrapped artists.

Personalized Data Stories and More

Wrapped didn't introduce as many new personalized data stories as in previous years. However, the "Your Music Evolution" feature is a significant addition. It tracks up to three distinct musical phases you went through during the year, providing a unique perspective on your musical journey.

Audiobooks are also a new addition to Wrapped in 2024. The Spotify audiobooks catalog has doubled to over 300,000 titles, and Wrapped includes a new audiobooks editorial hub. It offers a dedicated Wrapped experience for authors and publishers to see how their work was engaged with by Spotify users.

Other areas of the Wrapped experience have also been updated. The Top 5 Artists Story now shows your "Longest Listening Streak." When sharing music or podcasts, Spotify tells you if it's in your top 100 songs, top 20 artists, or top 5 podcasts. The "Top Listeners" feature is back, allowing you to brag to friends about your long-time love for a favorite artist.

Artist video clips are making a comeback, with thousands of artists sharing messages to top fans. This year, Wrapped also adds Podcaster Clips, with video messages from popular podcasters like Emma Chamberlain, Ashley Flowers, Markiplier, Steven Bartlett, and others. In celebration of Top Artist Taylor Swift, there are several Easter Eggs in the app with Era-themed animations.
