The streets of Reston Town Center were transformed into a vibrant open-air gallery on October 20th, as hundreds of artists, families, and art enthusiasts gathered to showcase their creative talents at the annual ChalkFest event. From professional artists to budding young creatives, the pavement was adorned with a stunning array of chalk designs that captivated the attention of passersby.

The ChalkFest event was a true testament to the power of art to bring people together. Over 300 participants and more than 1,000 attendees, including artists, families, children, and art lovers of all ages, converged at the Reston Town Center to express their creativity and appreciate the talents of others. The ChalkFest event showcased a diverse range of artistic talents, from professional artists to amateur enthusiasts and families. Professional and amateur artists captivated passersby with their impressive works in progress, showcasing their technical skills and creative vision. The ChalkFest event featured a juried competition, with a panel of esteemed judges carefully evaluating each design. The judges, including Marco Rando, an artist and South Lakes STEAM Team teacher; Tracie Griffith Tso, an artist and instructor at the Reston Community Center; and South Lakes High School seniors Izzie Brabant and Haley Caicedo, faced the challenging task of selecting the winners across various categories, including Professional Artists, Amateur Artists, and Families & Kids.Celebrating the Winners
After much deliberation, the winners were announced by Hunter Mill Supervisor Walter Alcorn, Reston Community Center Executive Director BeBe Nguyen, and Arts Fairfax President and CEO Stuart Holt. In the Professional Artists category, Brianna Camp took first place, followed by Troy Wingard in second and Penny Hauffe in third. The Amateur Artists category was won by Suticha Mungkurnkarn, with Vesna Cottrell and Abigail Sherwood taking second and third place, respectively. In the Family & Kids category, Andrew Gordon claimed first place, Ross Horio captured second, and Sayuri Horial placed third. The People's Choice Awards recognized Francis Deppner in first, Brianna Camp in second, and Ben Morse in third.Accessibility and Inclusion
Recognizing the importance of accessibility and inclusion, Public Art Reston reserved a limited number of free squares for families and children requiring financial assistance.
