La plataforma permite a los pacientes reportar de manera rápida y sencilla las recetas que no han sido surtidas en su totalidad. Una vez generado el reporte, las instituciones de salud trabajan de forma conjunta con Birmex (Laboratorios de Biológicos y Reactivos de México) para verificar la disponibilidad de los medicamentos. Esto no solo recopila datos estadísticos, sino que también permite a las instituciones contactar directamente a los pacientes para brindarles una solución inmediata. Para las recetas electrónicas, el proceso es más ágil, ya que el sistema permite identificar los medicamentos no surtidos mediante el folio de la receta digital. Sin embargo, los retos persisten con las recetas manuales, que pueden presentar problemas como la prescripción de medicamentos comerciales en lugar de genéricos.
Además, el gobierno mexicano está llevando a cabo un esfuerzo masivo en la compra consolidada de medicamentos para los años 2025 y 2026. Incluye a 27 instituciones, como los servicios de salud de Pemex, y tiene como objetivo la adquisición de 4,429 claves de medicamentos e insumos médicos, con un valor cercano a 4,909 millones de bienes. El proceso comenzó a finales de octubre con un diagnóstico del abasto de medicamentos y la definición de la demanda por institución. Desde entonces, se han llevado a cabo más de 60 reuniones con laboratorios y farmacéuticas para asegurar su participación en el proceso de licitación.

El gobierno ha establecido un catálogo de claves terapéuticas optimizado y lanzado la plataforma de discusión del proyecto de licitación en https://discusion.salud.gob.mx/. El objetivo es garantizar la transparencia y la eficiencia, por lo que se excluyó a intermediarios en el proceso, permitiendo únicamente la participación de fabricantes y titulares de registro sanitario. Las adjudicaciones de medicamentos de fuente única y patente comenzarán el 27 de noviembre de 2024, mientras que las licitaciones para los productos genéricos se darán a conocer el 16 de diciembre de 2024, con entregas previstas a partir de marzo de 2025.
Este esfuerzo tiene como fin optimizar la distribución y garantizar que los medicamentos necesarios estén disponibles para todos los mexicanos. Además, las entregas se realizarán directamente en los almacenes estatales, siempre que esto no incremente el costo, o a través del Centro Federal de Almacenamiento y Distribución de Insumos para la Salud (CEFEDIS) en Huehuetoca, Estado de México.
