Fresno's Efforts to Ensure Safety for Cyclists and Pedestrians

In Fresno, California, a significant event took place on Sunday. Twenty-seven helmets and pairs of shoes were lined along the water fountain at Fresno City Hall. City Council Vice President Mike Karbassi came together with the friends and family members of those who lost their lives while walking or cycling on the roads. Karbassi emphasized that a lot of it comes down to behavior - red-light runners, distracted drivers, and people not being attentive while walking or biking.

City's Allocation for Traffic Improvements

The City of Fresno is making a substantial investment in proper traffic flows. This includes the creation of bike lanes and sidewalks. Karbassi pointed out that there are already some changes in place for cyclists on city streets. For instance, a box is created in front of the intersection at the limit line. The cars are held behind this box, while the bicycles are positioned at the limit line. This setup ensures a safer interaction between cars and bicycles at intersections.

Impact on Victims and Their Families

Holding pictures and signs, the friends and family of car collision victim Adela Santana were present. Two years have passed since she was killed while riding her bike, and they are still waiting for justice. Tracey Dunn, Santana's friend, vividly remembers that day. "I remember that day clearly, and I know all my friends remember that day clearly. I remember what I was wearing, I remember where I was. I remember sitting by her on the side of the road, holding her hand as she laid there with no more life in her body." Santana's children and the entire family have been forever changed. Dunn added, "We wait for that man to be held accountable for his crime."

Current Victim Statistics and Anticipated Growth

Karbassi stated that this year's number of victims is approximately the same as last year. However, he anticipates that the number of victims will increase before the end of the year. Imagine the frustration of purchasing a car only to find yourself in a situation where you can't drive it. This is precisely what occurred with three customers of Route 59 Motors in Nanuet, Rockland County. These customers, who reached out to 7 On Your Side for assistance, were left stranded without vehicle titles, making it impossible to register their new cars and obtain license plates.

Buying a Car but Unable to Drive It

Three strangers found themselves in a similar predicament. Ryan bought his Jeep Wrangler in October 2023, and Jonathan purchased an Infinity a month later. Despite making their payments, they still lacked titles for their vehicles after a full year. "I wasn't given a reason as to why," Ryan said. Jonathan added, "The folks at 59 Motors can continuously delay the process, making you think they're doing something while never following through."Carl, another customer, had an even more bizarre experience. He was handed Georgia tags even though he had never been to Georgia. After six months of haggling with the owner, Peter Samaan, and the New York DMV, he was finally able to register his Jeep with a duplicate title.

The Owner's Avoidance Tactics

While the customers held up their end of the deal, the owner of Route 59 Motors seemed to be putting the pedal to the metal and avoiding them at all costs. "Insane and narcissistic," Ryan described the owner's behavior. Carl echoed these sentiments, saying, "I felt violated and disrespected. He laughed in my face when I said I was going to call the cops."

DMV Investigations and License Revocation

The New York DMV also received numerous complaints about Route 59 Motors. Investigators found valid violations such as practicing dishonest or misleading advertising, failing to maintain proof of owning a sold vehicle, selling cars without applying for registration and title, and providing certificates of sale for cars they didn't own. On Sunday night (Nov. 17), the singer took to social media to share the news that his daughter, Savannah, was involved in a devastating head-on car crash. This incident has led him to hurriedly make his way back to Nashville from a show in New Mexico. His wife Kimberly called to inform him that Savannah "had been in a bad wreck and was being life flighted to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville," as Worley himself explained.
