In Week 13, the tight end position faced yet another setback as Taysom Hill and Dallas Goedert both endured knee injuries and had to exit their respective games. The situation appears more dire for Hill, as he is now anticipated to miss the remainder of the season. Goedert doesn't seem to have a long-term injury, but he has demonstrated a tendency to get injured this season.

Unpredictability at the Tight End Position

These injuries merely continue the pattern of unpredictability witnessed at the tight end position this year. Over the course of 13 weeks, only four tight ends are averaging more than 10 half-PPR fantasy points per game. One of them, Hill, is now out for the year. Hopefully, we can discover some other excellent options on the waiver wire this week to address those tight end roster gaps.

Noah Gray (TE – KC)

Even after two outstanding performances, Noah Gray's roster percentage only increased from 4% to 11% between Weeks 12 and 13. This might be due to Travis Kelce and the perception that Gray's big games (89 yards and four touchdowns in Weeks 11 and 12) were a fluke and wouldn't be repeated. It is indeed highly unlikely for him to score two touchdowns per game continuously. However, what has remained consistent is Gray's opportunity within the Chiefs' offense.In Week 13, Gray received another six targets and made four catches for 58 yards. This brings his total to 16 targets and 12 receptions in the past three weeks. The production in Week 13 was accompanied by one of Gray's highest snap shares of the season (62%). It may be hard to believe, but among all Chiefs players this season, only Travis Kelce and Xavier Worthy have more targets than Noah Gray. He is a definite part of this offense as the Kansas City team deploys more 12 personnel and is definitely worth adding to rosters against the Chargers and Browns in the next two weeks.

Juwan Johnson (TE – NO)

The offensive injuries keep piling up for New Orleans. This time, it is the versatile tight end Taysom Hill who has suffered a season-ending knee injury, leaving the Saints even more shorthanded. In recent weeks, we have seen New Orleans' pass-catchers like Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Kevin Austin Jr. step up. Now, it is Juwan Johnson's turn to take on a significant portion of the snaps and receiving work that Hill was previously handling in this offense.After Hill (five catches for 37 yards on Sunday) was injured, Johnson became more involved in the offense. He drew seven targets, which was the most he has had all season, and finished with five catches for 36 yards. Last week, he scored his second touchdown of the season. He will have to compete with Foster Moreau at tight end, but Johnson's 70% snap share in Week 13 was his highest since Week 7. A more prominent role for this athletic tight end is surely on the horizon.

Tommy Tremble (TE – CAR)

Ja’Tavion Sanders missed Week 13 due to the severe neck injury he sustained in Week 12. Tommy Tremble was the major beneficiary at tight end. Tremble played every single offensive snap in the overtime thriller against Tampa Bay. He had eight targets, made five catches, and amassed 77 yards on the day. Only Adam Thielen and David Moore had more targets than Tremble. It was evident that Bryce Young established a connection between the two.It is highly likely that Sanders will also miss Week 14, which will once again put Tremble on the field for nearly every play. The best aspect of observing the Young-Tremble connection was Tremble's ability to get open against linebackers due to his athleticism combined with Young's growing poise in the pocket and his ability to scramble and make throws on the run. Against the Eagles and Cowboys in the next two weeks, Tremble has a chance to accumulate a significant number of targets.

Bonus Tight End Pickup: Hunter Henry (TE – NE)

Hunter Henry is on a bye in Week 14, but this presents the perfect opportunity to acquire him at a discounted price if you are in the 53% of leagues where he is available on the waiver wire. He could be a valuable tight end for the final stretch and playoffs as the Patriots are underdogs against the Cardinals, Bills, and Chargers in Weeks 15-17.
