A few years ago, the non-profit Sleep in Heavenly Peace lent a helping hand to a Chattanooga State student in need, and from that chance encounter, a lasting partnership was born. "We had a single mom with three kids who had to be moved into a new place. They had nothing and no beds. It was about two weeks before Christmas, and we were trying to raise money to buy beds, and somebody talked about Sleep in Heavenly Peace. When I called them, they said we can help you, and they delivered three beds before Christmas," recounts Chattanooga State Assistant Vice President Sandy Rutter, reflecting on the organization's initial involvement.

Chattanooga State Answers the Call

Now, the favor is being returned, and this time, Chattanooga State students and staff are the ones taking action. They have committed to constructing a hundred twin-size beds from slabs of wood, meticulously crafting headboards, side rails, and footboards by hand. "It's nice seeing your hard work actually being put to good use because we are actually out here working, and you are seeing it is not an easy task to do. Knowing that you are putting all your blood and sweat into it, but it is really helping someone in need, it really touches home," shares Alani Speckom, the Student Government Association President, who is among the many students making a difference.

The driving force behind this initiative is the unwavering mission of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, as articulated by its President, Bob Hirschi.
